Father, grandfather, mentor and dear friend, John Joseph Weber, age 91, died of natural causes on April 13, 2012 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. John was born on May 24, 1920 in Yorkville, New York to Joseph Dyabelek and Salsha Pietrovska. He grew up during the Great Depression on the lower East Side Manhattan in New York City and considered Central Park his backyard playground. John was a World War II Army Veteran, was stationed at Pearl Harbor and fought in the Invasion of Okinawa. After WWII, John attended the University of Colorado in Boulder where he studied geology. It was during this time that he met and married Marianne Doyle to whom he was married for 26 years and had four children. John's professional career as a petroleum geologist took him around the world. He worked extensively in Mexico, Malaysia, Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Colorado. John retired and moved to Las Cruces in 1998 to be near family. John is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Betty Weber De Young, his former wife Marianne Doyle Weber, and his daughter Nancy Elizabeth Weber. He is survived by his daughter Kathleen Weber Albers (Kelly) of Las Cruces; son John Michael Weber of Lewisville TX; son James Joseph Weber of Houston TX; grandchildren April Weber Kirby (Chase) and Shannon K. Weber, both of Lewisville TX; and Kara L. Albers and Kevin P. Albers, both of Las Cruces. In addition to his family, John leaves behind his beloved community of friends at the Golden Mesa Retirement Home in Las Cruces where he lived for 12 years. John was an avid outdoorsman, athlete and fisherman. Even after completely losing his eyesight, John continued to exercise daily and conducted exercise classes for the residents of Golden Mesa. John remained positive, full of hope and a man of honor all of his long life. A memorial gathering to celebrate John's life will be held at 10 am on Saturday, April 21 at the Golden Mesa, 3rd Floor Chapel, 151 N Roadrunner Parkway, Las Cruces, NM.
