In Loving Memory of

Johnny Joseph Carrillo

March 19, 1947 – May 3, 2025

It is with heavy hearts, we share the passing of Johnny Joseph Carrillo, 78, a lifelong resident of Las Cruces, proud U.S. Army veteran, loving father, and dedicated community member, who left this world on May 3, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.

Born on March 19, 1947, to Sammy and Ophelia Carrillo, Johnny lived a life full of purpose, laughter, and service. He is survived by his daughters Rebecca (Fred) Serna and Lorraine “Lori” (Branden) Jaquemai, his sister Patricia Crawley, nephew Christopher Crawley, niece Crystal Crawley (Paul Nevarez), and many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry on his legacy with love and pride.

Johnny proudly served his country as an Artillery soldier during the Vietnam Era, stationed in Korea from 1967 to 1969. His service was recognized with several honors, including the U.S. Army Expert Rifle Badge, National Defense Service Medal, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.

More than anything, Johnny will be remembered for his generous spirit, quick wit, and a smile that could light up any room. His sense of humor—sharp, sarcastic, and full of love—was a gift he shared freely. He was an avid outdoorsman, a devoted horseman, and a passionate hunter. A loyal and passionate fan of the San Francisco 49ers, Johnny never missed a chance to cheer on his team. Whether listening to 1960s “Oldies,” quoting Westerns, or training for the Bataan Memorial Death March, Johnny embraced life with strength, purpose, and heart.

In 1978, Johnny followed in his father’s footsteps by re-establishing Carrillo’s Plumbing and Heating, which he successfully ran for 46 years. He wasn’t just a business owner—he was a trusted friend and a hardworking presence in the community, always willing to help others with pride and integrity.

Services to celebrate Johnny’s life will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Las Cruces: Visitation: 10:00 AM, Rosary: 10:30 AM, Funeral Mass: 11:00 AM, Graveside service to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Reception from 2 -4 pm at La Posta de Mesilla.

Johnny’s presence in our lives was a blessing. His strength, laughter, and love will remain with us always. Though he may be gone from our sight, he will never be gone from our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to the Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley or the Veterans Association of America, Inc.—two causes close to Johnny’s heart.
