Juanita "Jenny" Valles Herrera, 89 passed away on January, 2014 at home. She was born May 06, 1924 in Hachita, NM to Celestina and Jose Valles. Juanita graduated from Hachita High School in May 1944 and was proud that she was the only girl and only Spanish student to ever graduate from that school. She attended New Mexico State University, University Park, New Mexico at the school of arts and science and studied sociology. Juanita was employed at Memorial Medical hospital 1960 in the Pediatrics department, was a clerk at the Las Cruces Post Office 1960-1966, Community Action Agency 1966-1967 as a Outreach Worker, Administrator/Director For the Eastside Community Center, N.M Taxation Revenue dept. 1975-1985 until her retirement in 1985. She was affiliated with Ladies VFW auxiliary 3242, a full time Volunteer with RSVP City of Las Cruces since 1989 until her accident in 2007 She also had specialized Training in Federal law compliance, IRS, Civil Rights Code, bookkeeping and taxes both federal and state from New Mexico State university; community organizations from the university of Oklahoma; and from the CAP Training institute she studied neighborhood centers organization and dynamics of small group organization. Juanita married David Aguilar Herrera in 1944 while he was in the Navy. He preceded her in death after 44 years of marriage on June 2, 1988. She was also preceded in death by a son Joseph V. Herrera who passed away in March 26, 2007. Juanita is survived by her oldest son and caregiver of many years David V Herrera of Las Cruces, son Noberto Herrera and wife Vangie of Las Cruces, Daughter Lori ann Herrera of Irving, Texas, Sister Angie Montoya and husband Arturo of Duncan, AZ, Brother in law Raymond Herrera and Wife Rosie of Las Cruces, Sister in law Irene R Herrera Las Cruces, Sister in law Antonia Valles of Phoenix, AZ . She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 21 great grand children and 6 great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews cousins and beautiful friends. Special Thanks to Maria Romero, Mona Nash, Josie Frietze, Tender Care and staff and Mesilla valley hospice and staff. Pall bearers will be David M Herrera, Michael John Herrera, Demas Bejanomo, Raymond Baca Jr, Chris Contreras, and Javier Gomez. A visitation will be Sunday February 2, 2014 from 6-7 pm at Getz Funeral Home with a prayer vigil to follow at 7 pm, Funeral services will be 10 am Monday, February 3, 2014 at St. Genevieve's church with Father Moreno officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Genevieve's Catholic Church. "Don't be sad, be happy for me for now I have gone to be with the man I love so much, my dear husband who has waited so long for me to come; My mom and dad, Socorro and all the rest of my family.
