Judith "Judy" Ann Chavez

Judith Ann "Judy" Chavez, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on August 15, 2025, at her home, surrounded by family in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She was 77 years old.

Born on June 19, 1948, in Rochester, Minnesota, Judy was the daughter of Ervin and Angeline Wiltgen. Her early years in Minnesota laid the foundation for a life marked by dedication to family and service to her community.

Judy built a meaningful career with the New Mexico Department of Motor Vehicles, where she worked diligently for 25 years before retiring. Her commitment and professionalism left a lasting impression on colleagues and those she served throughout her tenure.

At the heart of Judy's life was her family. She shared a loving marriage of almost 53 years with her husband Richard Chavez and took immense pride in their children: Scott and Rick. She welcomed daughters-in-law Kenna and Melissa into the family with warmth and affection. Judy’s legacy continues through her grandchildren—Devrie, Jarod, Kalyssa, Austin, Isabella, Alex, and Daniel—and great-granddaughters Cora and Kaelyn. Her love extended beyond her husband and children to her siblings Bill, Carol, Bob, Charlie and each of their respective families.

Judy found joy in creative pursuits that reflected her vibrant spirit. She enjoyed painting and coloring as forms of expression and relaxation. Her talents also extended to candle making and macramé crafts. Crocheting was another cherished pastime that allowed her to create beautiful keepsakes for those she loved.

Those who knew Judy remember her as a devoted and loving wife and mother whose presence brought comfort and joy. Her kindness touched many lives, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

May her memory bring peace to those who mourn her passing and inspiration to those who carry forward the love she so generously gave. A family greeting will be held from 9:00 AM-10:00 AM immediately followed by the Memorial Service at 10:00 AM on Tuesday September 2, 2025, at Getz Funeral Home 1410 E. Bowman Ave. Las Cruces, New Mexico.
