Julian Uranga Chavez 93, our beloved Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Uncle, and Friend, of San Ysidro, left his dwelling place on earth and entered eternal life to be with his heavenly Father on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014. He was born in San Ysidro, to Belsan Sr and Maria Chavez. Julian enjoyed and always looked forward to spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren as well as with his numerous friends who would stop by and visit. Julian was raised in San Ysidro, as a young boy helped his dad and brothers (Belsan II, Arturo, Adan) on the family farm and helped drive cattle by horseback along the Rio Grande River to the Radium Springs area. He shared many of these adventurous stories with his children that they will forever cherish. Julian loved baseball and took great joy in supporting and watching each of his five sons and grandchildren compete in various teams throughout their lives. Julian's favorite pastime was hunting and fishing and taught his sons and grandsons the many skills of being a sportsman. Julian ran and operated a family farm in San Ysidro and took great pride and joy in the numerous crops that he raised. He was famously known for having the best Chile, cantaloupes, and sweetest watermelons in the Las Cruces area. Many people that would stop by to purchase such items were fascinated by the many stories that he shared with them. Julian, along with his devoted wife, Guadalupe Chavez, provided their love, life lessons, encouragement and guidance to his family, especially to their three daughters, Mary, Sally, and Ernestine. Julian is survived by three daughters, Mary Chavez of Las Cruces, N.M., Sally Moya (Steve) and Ernestine Chavez (Richard), both of Albuquerque, N.M; five sons, Julian L. Chavez (Gloria), Sammy Chavez (Josie), Joe Chavez (Priscilla), Henry Chavez (Helen), all of Las Cruces, N.M., and Daniel Chavez (Lucille) of Albuquerque, N.M. He is survived by 25 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, sisters, his loving Wife Guadalupe Chavez, infant son, Robert, and one grandson, Gary Samaniego. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10a.m. on Thursday, Feb 13, 2014 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church. The rite of committal will follow with inurnment at the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
