Katheryn (Kay) Alice Nolan Stone (92) died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, in Las Cruces on Nov. 18, 2012. She was born in Little Rock, AK on June 20, 1920 to Michael T. and Eva L. Nolan. Shortly after her birth, her parents returned to their hometown of Trinidad, CO. Kay loved growing up in Trinidad, where she attended Holy Trinity Catholic School and Trinidad High School. She continued her education at Duchesne College in Omaha, NB. She married the love of her life, Charles (Chuck) Stone, on June 29, 1921. Chuck, with a Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Colorado, accepted a position with the Texas Oil Company in Beacon, NY. While living in Beacon, they celebrated the birth of their first daughter, Susan Loraine, in Oct. 1943. Chuck was transferred to Long Beach, CA where their second daughter, Sally Jean, was born in March, 1947. Kay and Chuck moved back to Colorado to raise their family in 1948. They lived in Denver, Colorado Springs and settled in Lakewood, CO. Kay loved her family and raising her two daughters. She was a fabulous wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed preparing great meals, sewing, knitting and playing bridge. She was full of fun and loved life. She had an unbelievable contagious personality that drew people to her. She was strong in faith and character with a lot of Irish spirit. She was an important part of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren lives. She provided the perfect model to develop values, respect and manners in them all. In her eyes, they were all the best of everything. In 1980, Kay and Chuck retired to Las Cruces, NM. They loved the mild winters and wonderful friends they made. In Las Cruces, Kay belonged to St. Albert the Great Newman Center, Progress Club, Picacho Hills Country Club, and became a lifetime volunteer with the Memorial Medical Hospital Auxiliary. She loved being with people and especially enjoyed parties, luncheons, playing bridge, and volunteering in the gift shop and information desk at the hospital. Kay is survived by daughters, Susan (Merv) Mydland of Cheyenne, WY and Sally (David) Walton of Las Cruces; grandchildren, Mark (Janna) Mydland, Amy (Stephen) Grace, Christy Ward, Julie (Shawn) Gustafson, and step-grandsons, Matthew (Meredith) Walton and Eric (Sheila) Walton. She is also survived by ten great grandchildren, Abby, Sarah, and Kate Mydland, Cody and Tyler Gustfason, Bailey Ward, Jett and Cash Walton, and Molly and Ben Walton. Her parents, Michael and Eva Nolan, and brother, Charles Nolan preceded Kay in death. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 at 10 a.m. at St. Albert the Great Newman Center, 2615 S. Solano, with Fr. Don Adamski officiating.
