Alma Dorthene (Dot) Kennedy Bernstein, 79, of Las Cruces, formerly of Levelland, Texas, was welcomed into the arms of her loving Savior Jesus Christ with the words "Well done good and faithful servant" on October 13, 2014. Funeral services will be on Friday, October 17th at 10:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Las Cruces with Rev. Paul Rydecki, pastor, officiating. Burial will be on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Albany, Texas. Dot was born December 26, 1934 in Mills County, Texas, to Ernest Mabry Kennedy and Era B. Hancock and was the sixth of nine children. She attended Albany High School and was a member of the marching band where she played in the horn section. She married Raymond F. Bernstein Sr. on November 28, 1953 in Abilene, Texas. They moved to Levelland, Texas, where Dot delighted in being a wife to Ray and a loving mother to Ray Jr., Rocky and Cindy. Ray and Dot were blessed with 50 years of marriage. They were best friends and shared a love for the Lord and Kingdom work. Dot had a love for evangelism and out reach in her church and was a charter member of Shepherd of the Plains Lutheran Church in Lubbock, Texas. Following the death of her beloved husband, Ray, Dot courageously moved to Las Cruces where she enjoyed living with her children and participating in her loving church family. She loved genealogy, flowers, photographs, country music and visiting with people. Being confined to a wheel chair for over three decades did not diminish her zest for life and she was an incomparable prayer warrior for all those she loved and knew. She is survived by her children, Raymond F. Bernstein Jr. (Anna Lee) of Las Cruces, Rocky Bernstein (Nan) of Levelland, Texas, and Cindy Nations (Richard) of Levelland, Texas; six grand children: Amanda Nations Butcher (Brian) of Houston, Texas, Daniel Nations (Callie), Benjamin Nations (Shanell) all of Levelland, Lauren, Paul and Claire Bernstein of Las Cruces; four great grandchildren, Madison Nations of Levelland, Camden and Deegan Butcher of Houston and Charleigh Nations of Levelland, two sisters, Jane Burrow of Breckenridge, Texas and Earlene Ivy of Hobbs, New Mexico. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dot's name can be made to Honor Flight Las Cruces, The Wounded Warrior Project, Project Linus, or Emmanuel Lutheran Church. PDF Printable Version
