Las Cruces, NM – Linda Ruth (nee Martin) Walker, 78, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2026, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, surrounded by the love of her family after a short battle with cancer. She was born on December 20, 1947, in Abilene, Texas, to Bernice W. Martin and Gertie F. Martin. She grew up in Texas and graduated from Midland Lee High School in 1966.
Linda’s greatest devotion was always to her family. On June 3, 1967, she married the love of her life, Dicky Walker, in Pecos, Texas, and they were nearing their 60th wedding anniversary. Together, they built a life filled with love, friendship, and joy, and were blessed with two daughters, Shelley and Jennifer. Over the years, they made their home primarily in Pecos, Texas, as well as Katy, Texas, before moving to Las Cruces, New Mexico, in the early 1990s. Linda had a knack for decorating and a natural talent for turning every house into a warm, inviting home. She loved camping trips, watching baseball, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, and was always a wonderful fishing partner to Dicky.
Above all, Linda was an extraordinary mother, grandmother, and expectant great-grandmother. Her home was the heart of the neighborhood, a place where her daughters’ friends always wanted to gather because of her cool, fun, and deeply caring nature. Their home was always open to friends and family for gathering and happy conversation. She cherished every moment spent with her loved ones, showering her family with warmth, laughter, and affection. She also held a special place in her heart for her beloved dogs—Red, Garrett, Waco, Jay, and Sally—and most recently, her faithful companion, Jack.
While living in Pecos and raising a family, Linda worked in the counselor's office at Pecos High School. After relocating to Las Cruces, she and Dicky partnered together to co-manage a Merchants Motor Lines franchise. She later worked for Wallace Chevrolet as an accounts receivable and payable specialist before stepping into a well-deserved retirement.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernice W. Martin and Gertie F. Martin, and her sister, Barbara Massegee.
Linda is survived by her devoted husband, Dicky Walker; her sister, Judy Patterson; her daughters, Shelley Renee’ Meloy and Jennifer Lynn Charity (husband, Oliver); her cherished grandchildren, Colton Dane Evans (wife, Maranda), Tyler Brynn Charity, and Abbey Road Charity; her expected great-granddaughter, Madilyn Renee’ Evans; many dear nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Jack.
The celebration for Linda’s life is scheduled for Friday, November 13, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., at Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E. Bowman Ave. Las Cruces, New Mexico.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Mesilla Valley Hospice for their wonderful care, compassion, and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Linda’s honor to Mesilla Valley Hospice.
