Margarita "Maggie" Stokes

Margarita "Maggie" C. Stokes, 77, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025.

Born on November 9, 1947, Maggie lived a life full of love, warmth, and quiet strength. She retired from a long and dedicated career with the federal government, where she worked as a budget analyst. Outside of work, she found joy in baking for her family and tending to her garden, where she nurtured both plants and memories.

Maggie is lovingly remembered by her mother, Angelita Chavez; her son Jay Stokes; her daughter Amy Gabaldon and husband Mark; and her beloved grandsons, Corbin Stokes and Ari Hernandez. She is also survived by her brothers Raymond Chavez and wife Melinda, and Thomas Chavez and wife Bertha; her sister Erlinda Garcia; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

She is reunited in rest with her father Arturo Chavez, brother Arthur Chavez, Jr., sister Stella Otero, and niece Sophie Molina.

Maggie’s gentle spirit, unwavering love for her family, and enduring kindness will be remembered by all who had the honor of knowing her.

A gathering of friends and family will take place on Saturday, May 3, 2025, beginning at 9:30 a.m., followed by a celebration of life at 10:30 a.m. at Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E. Bowman Avenue, Las Cruces, NM 88001.
