Maria F Cox, 93, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026 in Tularosa, New Mexico. She was born February 1, 1933, in Neidernsill, Austria and married her beloved husband of 70 years, James Cox in Salfelden, Austria. Maria later made her home in the USA, living in Bisbee, Arizona and then El Paso, Texas for over 50 years, and also in Ruidoso and Tularosa, New Mexico; Katy, Texas and Fairfield Glade, Tennessee.
Maria was a strong, and sharp woman who loved flower gardening and cooking for her family. She was deeply proud of the family she built and the traditions she nurtured through her care, her meals, and her steady presence. She was also very proud of her Austrian roots and the family she held so close to her heart.
In El Paso, Maria sold Avon for almost 20 years, where she earned the Presidents Club Award yearly, an achievement that reflected her determination, work ethic, and people skills. She later served as a Department Manager with WalMart in Ruidoso, where she was respected for her leadership and reliability.
She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Debra and Bram Johns of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee, and Rhonda “Dee” and Jimmy Harper of Tularosa, New Mexico; her sister Liz Egger of Neidernsill, Austria; and her brother Ferdinand Fuchs (and wife Loisa) of Walchen, Austria. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews in Austria, all of whom she loved dearly.
She was also deeply proud of her grandchildren, James Barnes (wife Susan) of Clear Lake, Texas; Tiffany (husband Dwight) of Katy, Texas; Amber Rogers of Katy, Texas; and Candace Barnes of Austin, Texas.
Maria is also survived by -and cherished- her 13 great-grandchildren: Niklas, Ethan and Jordan Barnes; Hunter and Caden Gwin; Seth (wife Starr) Rogers, Dylan Scott, Trinity Ramirez, and Toby Smith; Anthony, Michael and Bailey Rogers; and Zooey Belche.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Cox, as well as her parents Johann and Therese Eder Fuchs, brothers Hans Fuchs, Gidi Fuchs, Franz Fuchs and sister Christl Pirchner.
