Mary Elizabeth Bumpers

July 14, 1937 — November 20, 2022

Mary Elizabeth Bumpers, a resident of Las Cruces, Passed away on November 20, 2022, at Mesilla Valley Hospice. Born in Via, Oklahoma, on July 14, 1937, Mary Beth and her parents moved to Las Cruces and opened a grocery store in Mesilla Park. After graduating from Las Cruces High School, she attended and graduated from New Mexico State University.

Mary Beth Started her career as a history teacher in Clint, Texas and then moved to Fabens High School as a school counselor. She eventually returned to Las Cruces as a counselor at Mayfield High School. After many years she was transferred to Onate High School, then to Las Cruces High School; she ended her career at Picacho Middle School. She retired twice because she was not ready to stop working.

Mary Beth helped hundreds of students and their families in her long career. She was a great friend and mentor to many parents and her fellow staffers. When her door was open, she was ready for business.

Mary Beth collected memorabilia from each school and wore them on game days and every pep rally. She was a big Aggie fan and was lifelong baseball ticket holder.

Mary Beth was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Winnie. She is survived by her brother Robert and sister-in-law Claire of Phoenix, Arizona; niece Mary Elizabeth her husband and children of Beaverton, Oregon; nephew Brian his wife and children of Washington state.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at 5:00pm at Getz Funeral Home Chapel followed by a Grave side service on Friday, December 9, 2022 at 10:00 am at Masonic Cemetery.
