Las Cruces - Mary Ann Phelan, 87, went home to be with the Lord on April 15, 2026. She was born on November 23, 1938 in Slidell, Louisiana to Aquilla and Marguerite Walker. Mary loved music and singing. Matter of fact, on the day she was born, Bob Hope and Shirley Ross recorded "Thanks for the Memory". After working for NASA in Texas, she went to work at the U.S. Postal Service, moved to Colorado Springs, where she met and married her future husband, John Phelan ("J.P.") of 50 years. Her commitment to her family and career exemplified her hardworking and caring nature. She even retired early to help raise her grandson Marshall Riley. Mary also enjoyed singing at church choirs and karaoke venues. She also traveled along with her tour guide hubby and to Louisiana visiting sisters. She was a life long member of the American Postal Workers Union (APWU).
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Larry and Fritz, plus one sister Dorothy ("Dot"). She is survived by her husband John, two children, three grandchildren, six great grandchildren. After cremation, Mary will be buried in one of her favorite places, Anacoco, Louisiana. Sweet Mary, thank you for memories. Au Revoir.
