Loving father, Papo, brother, and friend, Melchor F. Holguin Jr. entered God’s Kingdom on June 20, 2026, at the age of 70 years old.

Mel was born in Parral, Chihuahua to Melchor G. Holguin and Lilia Fraire de Holguin on June 9, 1956. Mel graduated from Las Cruces High School in 1975 and proudly followed in his father’s footsteps becoming an electrical contractor. Mel was an amazing husband and partner to Lucy Holguin, to whom he was married for 44 wonderful years. Together, Mel & Lucy owned and operated Electrical Contracting Services (ECS) for over 40 years. Mel had many passions in life including bowling, golf, baseball, fishing, and hunting. However, Mel’s true passion in life was being a father to his children and Papo to his grandchildren & great-grandchild.

Now that Mel’s has passed into the arms of the Lord, we should remind ourselves that this is the end of Mel’s physical life on Earth, and the beginning of her eternal and beautiful journey in Heaven.

Mel is survived by his three children, Deanna (Brandon) Remley of Rio Rancho, NM, Sarah (Erik) Kurtz of Las Cruces, NM, and Mel (Vanessa) Holguin III of Rio Rancho, NM; six grandchildren, Connor Ratje, David Butler, Michael Remley, Alex Nelson, Wednesday Holguin, and Chloe Holguin; his great-granddaughter, Carolynn Ratje; his siblings Frank (Sylvia) Holguin, Sal (Sally) Holguin, and Lilia (Tess) Holguin: as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Lucy A. Holguin; his father, Melchor G. Holguin; his mother, Lilia Fraire de Holguin; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, and in-laws.

Rosary and funeral mass will be held at San Albino Basilica on Saturday, July 18th at 10:30 am, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum. The pallbearers include his son, Mel Holguin III; grandsons, David Butler, Michael Remley, and Alex Nelson; Brothers, Frank Holguin and Sal Holguin. Honorary pallbearers include Anthony Holguin, Eddie Ogas, and Connor Ratje.
