Michial Thomas McGinnis passed away on October 24th, 2025, in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Michial was born in Trenton, Michigan on March 20th, 1969, to John Howard and Linda Sue McGinnis (née Bedo), and was raised in River Rouge. He married Robin Sue McGinnis (née Blackston) in Taylor, Michigan on June 20th, 1995. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Operation Desert Shield/Storm in the Gulf War, receiving multiple military commendations. Michial worked for years at U.S. Steel alongside numerous family members and was highly active in several union organizations. Later, he undertook a significant career change and continued serving his country as a U.S. Border Patrol Agent, where he served for the next nearly 18 years in the El Paso sector.

Michial had a fast wit and deep sense of humor, with a talent for lifting people’s spirits with his natural charisma and energetic smile. He loved fishing and the outdoors, always happy to share that adventurous spirit with others. He loved hockey more than any other pastime, and even after all his years living in the desert, Michial never forgot his roots on the ice. He loved animals, especially dogs, and was never without a canine companion. His surviving dog, Jessi, was his pride and joy. But most of all, Michial adored his family, and he lived with unrelenting devotion to his wife and his children. His sudden passing leaves not only a painful void, but a model of a life lived in unconditional love for them.

Michial is preceded in death by his father John. He is survived by his spouse Robin, his son Justin McGinnis (Yanixa) of Las Cruces, his daughter Kaitlyn Hallwyler (Alex) of Portland, Oregon, brother Larry (Raquel) of Alabama, brother Scott of Alabama, brother John of Florida, and mother Linda of Alabama. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, cousins, and an extended network of relatives and close friends who all loved him dearly.

A public viewing is scheduled for November 4th, 2025, from 5:00-8:00 PM. Funeral services will take place on November 5th, 2025, at 11:00am at Getz Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Michial’s fellow agents from the United States Border Patrol.
