Ogenia (Jeannie) Davis Alberson, 84, of Las Cruces, NM went to be with her Lord on Monday, August 8, 2011. Ogenia was born January 17, 1927 in Pelican, Louisiana to Eugene and Maggie Davis. Her family came to Las Cruces in 1935 where she remained. Jeannie enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, reading, and attending bible study and church activities at First Baptist Church. She was employed at New Mexico State University as an Administrative Assistant for the Agronomy Dept., and the New Mexico State Extension Service, and other Agriculture related departments for 40 years. Ogenia is survived by her daughters Sharon Erwin of Las Cruces and Beth Powers (life mate, Terry Taylor of Las Cruces) of Colorado Springs, CO; four brothers Thomas Davis (Margie) of Las Cruces, Norman Davis (Elsie) of Stephanville, MT, Billy Davis (Joyce) of Mesa, AZ, and Jimmy Davis of Dallas, TX; two sisters, Eloise James of Evansville, WA and Doris Hamilton (Jim) of Dublin, OH. She is also survived by her much loved grandchildren Myles Erwin (Amy) of Las Cruces, Davis Erwin of San Francisco, CA, Sarah Terrell (Justin) of Gallup, NM, and Cameron Powers of Colorado Springs, CO and 2 great grandchildren, Matthew Erwin and Justin Dean Terrell as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert Alberson, her son-in-law Dean Powers, and a sister, Ernell, as well as her parents. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 12, 2011 from 5 to 7 pm at Getz Funeral Home. The celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Las Cruces with Dr. Maurice Hollingsworth officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family would like to extend special thanks to the loving care of the Solano Unit staff of the Village at Northrise and the Hospice caregivers of Las Cruces. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Hospice of Las Cruces, the staff fund at the Village at Northrise or you favorite charity.
