Oscar Juan Sauceda

August 14, 1964 – December 7, 2025

Oscar Juan Sauceda, 61, entered eternal rest on December 7, 2025. Born on August 14, 1964 to Victoria and Oscar Sauceda, he was the eldest of five siblings: Benjamin Sauceda, Danita Felix (Jesus), and Pamela Molina (Felipe), Ralph Sauceda (Zulema) all of Vado, NM.

On May 20, 1988, Oscar married the love of his life, Lydia, and together they shared 37 beautiful years. Oscar’s love language was acts of service—he always expressed love through the things he did for others. This extended especially to his wife; he constantly surprised her with flowers, candies, and special treats just to make her smile. They attended church together every Sunday, always sharing lunch afterward, creating a lifetime of cherished routines and memories.

Oscar graduated from Gadsden High School in 1982 and enlisted in the United States Air Force that November. He proudly served for four years, traveling the world and training as a soldier. In September 1986, he returned home to New Mexico and went on to serve in the Army National Guard until September 2005.

Throughout most of his military career, Oscar worked as a logistician for the Army, including many years at the MATES facility. In 2005, he entered Civil Service at Fort Bliss as a logistician and later continued his service with the DEA beginning in 2018. He remained there until his retirement in July 2022.

Oscar loved old cars and cherished spending time with his family. He was the pillar of the family and led by deep faith. A devoted Catholic, he attended Mass every Sunday and participated in the Men’s ACTS retreat annually. Oscar served his community generously—carrying extra clothing in his truck to give to anyone in need. He was also one of the best cooks to those who knew him; if you visited, he made sure his favorite meal was ready.

An exceptional athlete, Oscar played varsity basketball for Gadsden High School and continued to play in the National Guard with his teammates. He proudly traveled to tournaments, including several appearances in the Gus Macker.

Oscar is survived by his loving wife Lydia Sauceda, his children Sarah Hernandez (David) and Aaron Sauceda, and his three grandsons David, Christian, and Johnathan Hernandez. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Juanita Bustamante; his sisters-in-law Sylvia Bustamante and Cynthia Nold (Jim); his brother-in-law Christopher Bustamante; his goddaughters Jaymee Corral (Tony), Samantha Nold, and Cassandra Silva; and his godsons James Sauceda (Valerie) and Jeremiah Moralez (Ashley).

He is preceded in death by his father-in-law Lorenzo Bustamante; maternal grandparents Vicente and Guillermina Guerrero; paternal grandparents Juan and Elena Sauceda; and several aunts and uncles.

Pallbearers David Hernandez, Tony Corral, James Sauceda, Randy Moralez, Benjamin Sauceda, and Sean Sauceda.

Services will be held on December 17 at St. Genevieve Catholic Church. The Rosary will begin at 1:30 p.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 2:15 p.m., with military honors immediately afterward. Interment will take place at a later date.

Following the services, the family invites everyone to join them at the Elks Lodge, 3000 Elks Dr., Las Cruces, NM 88005.
