Raymond Lyndol Wilcox of Las Cruces, New Mexico passed away peacefully on February 1,2026 at La Posada Hospice. Everyone knew Raymond as Lyndol throughout his meaningful life. Lyndol was born in Star, Texas to Cecil and Dera Wilcox.
Lyndol's mother passed away in a car accident when he was two years old. Lyndol and his brother Lester lived with various aunts and uncles around Texas, California, and New Mexico and enjoyed telling about different experiences and adventures. By high school, the two boys ended up in Alamogordo and La Luz, New Mexico. Some of Lyndol's happiest memories were working in the orchards in Laborcita Canyon above La Luz during his teenage years.
During high school Lyndol decided to drop out of high school mainly due to not having any clothes or shoes without holes. This decision worked out very exceptionally. Lyndol found a job as a construction laborer at Holloman Air Force Base. His work ethic was recognized very quickly and he was asked to become an apprentice electrician for Callahan Electric. Within a few years he was a Foreman Electrician for Callahan Electric and was responsible for many of the important buildings at Holloman and White Sands Missile Range. Lyndol worked with Callahan on a large number of projects which he was very proud of.
In 1959 Lyndol met Betty Amaral at a dance in Cloudcroft. They hit it off immediately and were soon married after only 5 dates. At the time of Lyndol's death, he and Betty had been married for 66 years.
After 25 years with Callahan Lyndol started his own company with the encouragement of his boss Murray Callahan. Lyndol started Lynco Electric in 1971 and it is still going strong 55 years later. What he started is now moving into a third generation. Lyndol proceeded to educate himself on accounting, taxes, banking, and engineering to the extent that his company became very successful. His work ethic created the definition of the American Dream.
Lyndol had a very fulfilling life enjoying extensive travel with his wife Betty, their kids, and especially the grandkids. During their travels they explored 39 countries and sincerely enjoyed them all. Lyndol and Betty travelled America, Mexico, and Canada in their motorhome and truly delighted in every small town and exploration. Lyndol also learned to fly airplanes and had some fun times in the air. He and his brother Lester also fished and hunted all around Southern New Mexico which made for some great memories which he frequently talked about.
Lyndol is survived by his wife, Betty, his sons, Raylyn and Nathan, and six grandchildren and step grandchildren.
Lyndol had asked to be cremated and a small celebration of life commemoration will be planned in the next few months.
We definitely want to thank La Posada Hospice for the care that they provided for our beloved friend and mentor.
