Richard Roy Waugh was born in Wichita, KS, on June 29, 1938 to Victor Roy and Maxine Waugh. Richard passed away in Walnut Creek, California on December 14, 2011. Richard, affectionately known as "Dick", attended La Grande High School in La Grande, Oregon where he excelled in football, basketball and baseball. Upon graduation in 1956 Dick attended Eastern Oregon University and eventually transferred back to Kansas where he began attending Kansas State University and playing varsity football. He married the love of his life Patricia Mae Baker on December 14, 1962 in Belle Plaine, Kansas. Dick earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, and upon graduation they moved to Houston, TX where he began his career in technology as a systems programmer with Texaco. During this time they were blessed with the birth of their daughter Kelly. Dick left Texaco to take a job with Texas A&M, and after the birth of Jeffery, the family moved to Las Cruces where he began work at the New Mexico State University computer center in 1971. Soon after the move Ronald joined the family. Dick loved to work with the students and staff at the computer center, he loved Las Cruces and NMSU. Dick became the statistician for the Aggie football team in 1978, soon after he became the official scorer for Aggie Basketball games where he faithfully served 28 years courtside. After retiring from NMSU and his officiating roles he continued to be a dedicated promoter and supporter of NMSU. Above all Dick enjoyed his family and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an anchor of love, leadership and support for his family, attending all their events and spending hours and hours planning and executing healthy, positive, fun and exciting activities for all of them. Dick was an avid sports fan, especially all Aggie sports but also including the El Paso Diablo's, college and professional baseball, basketball and football and most importantly any team he or his family were participating in. Dick played numerous sports including Church League Fast-pitch Softball, City League Basketball, Slow Pitch Softball and any pick-up game he could find during lunch. For the past ten years Grandpa played golf regularly with his friends where they debated news, exchanged jokes and conducted sports analysis. Richard was a member of First Baptist Church of Las Cruces and the NMSU Pioneers. Richard and Patricia enjoyed a long, happy and prosperous marriage of 49 years. They enjoyed each other from the raising of their family to enjoying their grown kids and grandkids, from their beloved peaceful house with the view of the city and the mountains to their second home in Ruidoso. They loved to travel and set out to see the world. They traveled the entire United States including Alaska and Hawaii and throughout Europe, Asia, Russia and Central America seeing many of the world's most amazing sites. Dick especially enjoyed the family cruises to Mexico. Richard is survived by his siblings Patrick (Janet), James (Martha), Rebecca, Deborah (Don) and Joseph (Sally) and numerous nieces and nephews. His children Ronald (Laura), Kelly (Curt), and Jeff (Mona Rae). The joys of his life all his grandchildren Jessica, Lindsie, Derrick, Carter, Ashley, Jerrik, Chaden, Jaedin, and Landon. Dick also has two great grandchildren Brentin and Aubrie. There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the New Mexico State University Golf Course Banquet Room from 2-4pm.
