Robert Edwin Omick, 76, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He is survived by his children and their spouses, David Omick and Pearl Mast of Cascabel, AZ, Patty Wood and Terry Wood of Las Cruces, NM, Karen Rogers and Scott Rogers of Albuquerque, NM, Steve Omick and Bonnie Omick of Tucson, AZ, Dan Omick and Lori Omick of Santa Fe, NM, Phil Omick of St. Louis, MO, Jeff Omick of St. Louis, MO and stepson Brian Engel of Silver City, NM.; and by his grandchildren Matthew Moore, Reann Omick, Emi Omick, Casiana Omick, Matthew Omick, Ariana Omick, Cameron Rogers and Zachary Rogers. Bob was born on May 31, 1930 in Chicago, IL. He served as an artillery sergeant in the Korean War. After graduating from Central College in Pella, IA, he went on to earn a PhD in English Literature from the University of Iowa in 1966. During his career he taught at the University of Iowa, Indiana State University and served as Dean of the College of Arts and Letters at Western New Mexico University. He also loved drama, was an outstanding actor, and directed and starred in many plays. In retirement he traveled often, volunteering in national and state parks in Missouri and New Mexico. He was a man of uncommon wit, humor and insight and is deeply missed by his family and friends. A remembrance and scattering of ashes will take place near Silver City, NM on January 6.
