Robert (Bobby) Rodriguez, age 86, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025, surrounded by the love, prayers, songs, and gratitude of his family and friends. A proud U.S. Army veteran and Staff Sergeant, devoted uncle, and beloved friend, Bobby lived a life defined by service, kindness, and quiet strength.

Born on February 23, 1939, to Roberto and Lita, Bobby grew up with a deep sense of duty and honor. He answered the call to serve his country, where he distinguished himself through his bravery and unwavering commitment to his fellow soldiers. His experiences in the military shaped the man he became—steady, selfless, and deeply compassionate.

Bobby devoted his life to family and community. Uncle Bobby was a second father to his many nieces and nephews, offering them guidance, support, laughter, and unconditional love. To them, he was simply “Uncle Bobby”—the one who never missed a birthday, always had a story ready, and knew how to make everyone feel special.

Bobby was recognized by the Mayor in a spectacular act of bravery where he saved a young child from a burning house. Not only was Uncle Bobby caring and selfless, but he was also a hero.

Bobby had a remarkable gift for connecting with people. He listened more than he spoke, but when he did speak, his words carried wisdom, warmth, and often just the right touch of humor. He loved good coffee, classic movies, and family get-togethers that turned into meaningful conversations. And above all, he loved his family with a quiet fierceness that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

As a young man, he was intrigued by beautiful cars, especially ones that went fast. This translated throughout his lifetime, and he even asked his future love of his life to get married in his ’57 Chevy Bel-Air. He was a staunch democratic contributor and was a successful campaigner throughout his life. Not only did Bobby contribute during his military service but also afterwards throughout the local community. Bobby was a member of many organizations and was revered by his peers.

He is survived by a large and loving family, including numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom will carry forward his legacy of love and loyalty.

Bobby is predeceased by his parents and his beloved wife of over 60 years (Auntie Daisy). He has joined Roberto Rodriguez, Lita Apodaca, Ma Grande, Carlota and Alberto Barela, Jaime Martinez, Gerald Barela, Gilbert (Wedo) Barela, and Mike Sanchez in heaven. He was known as the second father to Steven (Maritza) Sanchez and Stephanie (Nick) Dabreo, grandchildren Alessandro & Gianna Sanchez and Camari Dabreo. As well as numerous nieces and nephews who loved him very very much.

His Rosary and Mass will be held on May 28, 2025, 10:00am to 12:00pm and family viewing at 9:00am at St. Albert the Great Newman Parish Center at 2615 S. Solano Dr., Las Cruces, NM 88001 and subsequent Burial at Masonic Cemetery at 760 S. Compress Rd., Las Cruces, NM 88005.

Lovingly serving as pall bearers will be Larry Martinez Jr., Nathan Barela, Ryan Lucero, Michael Ortega, Anisa Barela, and Nick Dabreo.

Though he has left this world, Bobby’s spirit, his laughter, and his love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him.
