Rumaldo Salvatierrez Paz, 80, of Tortugas, NM died at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, April 25, 2012. He was born Sept. 28, 1931 in Tortugas, NM, to Antonio and Rafaela Paz. He was a veteran of the US Army where he served our country honorably and also a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. He retired after many years of faithful service from WSMR as a heavy equipment operator. Rumaldo was an avid baseball fan who played, coached, and watched his entire family play from childhood to adult and he also had an extensive baseball cap collection. Rumaldo was an advocate volunteer for the San Juan Fiesta and Tortugas Bingo, but his passion was for his Matachines Dance Group, Danza Guadalupana. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife Cecilia Paz of the family home; sons Rumaldo "Mister" Paz Jr. and wife Norma, Xavier "Harvey" Paz and wife Liz and Isaac Paz all of Tortugas, NM and Jaime Paz and wife Ruth of Phillips Ranch, CA; daughters Patricia "Pat" Fresquez and husband Richard of Mesilla, NM, Irene "Mamini" Paz-Payne and husband Mark of Las Cruces and Angelica "Angela" Paz-Luna and husband Richard of El Paso, TX; brothers Augustin Paz of Tortugas, NM, Jose Paz and wife Angie of Clint, TX, Jesus "Chuy" Paz and Arturo "Foxy" Paz and wife Anna all of Las Cruces; sisters Genevieve Martinez and husband Frank of Tortugas, Virginia Jacquez and husband Emilio and Alice Paz- Saenz and husband Carl all of Las Cruces. Also surviving him are his grandchildren Bianca, Jacob, Shiloh, Felicia, Felina, Celina, Nathan, Jacquelyn, Sierra, Ian, Marissa, Miranda, Angelo and Madison and by great-grandchildren Adrian, Angeni, Marcus and Aubrie. Rumaldo was preceded in death by brothers Gabriel and Kiko and by sister Anne. A visitation will be held from 6 to 7 pm on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church where a prayer vigil will follow at 7 pm with Fr. Vincent Petersen officiating. His funeral mass will be at 10 am on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 also at our Lady of Guadalupe with Fr. Don Adamski officiating. Rite of Committal will follow at the Tortugas Cemetery.
