Sally Jean Walker, 77, passed away quietly and without pain on April 11, 2012. She was born to Lester and Val Thompson in San Francisco on March 28, 1935. She married her husband of 57 years in Oakland, California on January 30, 1955. She has lived in Las Cruces since 1978. She taught 1st grade at East Picacho Elementary until her retirement in 2000. She enjoyed and helped care for her grand children as they grew up. She enjoyed gardening, exercising with her friends at a local health club, traveling with her husband as they toured all 50 states over a lifetime of sightseeing together, and she was an avid reader, with always a book next to her chair. The last book she was reading was titled "Gone for Good", a fictional novel, but with a prophetic title. During her brief 12 day stay in Memorial Medical Hospital she was able to keep in touch with her family and friends via the internet, where she was comforted by the many emails that she received. She is survived by her husband, Marvin Walker, her sister Linda Monroe, her 4 children Laura Taft (and husband Ron), Keith Walker, Suzanne Mechaney (and husband Matt), and Mark Walker (and wife Judy), her 8 grand children Tina Wildman, Jennifer Brown, Janine Walker, Brian Walker, Heather Stout, Katy Marshall, Madeline Walker, and Rebecca Walker, and her 2 great grand children Naomi Wildman and Elijah Stout. A gathering of family and friends will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at Getz Funeral Home. PDF Printable Version
