Sandra "Sandy" Johnson

Sandra (Sandy) Johnson passed away in her Las Cruces home, on Wednesday 16 September 2026. Sandy was 69 years old. Sandy was born in Parkston, South Dakota on 16 February 1957 to Rosie and John Moser, Sandra Sue would be their only child. Sandy grew up in and around Scotland, South Dakota on the family farm. She graduated from Scotland High School in 1975. She received a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from University of South Dakota Vermillion in 1978.

Sandy had over 40 years of experience in the Medical Laboratory Technology field. She retired from civil service with the William Beumont Army Medical Center Blood Donor Center in October of 2022.

Over the years, Sandy gave her time and talents to many organizations, volunteering at the Spangdahlem Air Base German clinic Lab, she was a Girl Scout troop leader and MHS Band Booster. Sandy had a wide range of crafting hobbies, but her passion was sewing and quilting. Her most recent work was with the St. James Sewing Bee, where she helped sew, label, and present patriotic quilts to US military veterans for Quilts of Valor. Sandy also enjoyed sewing colorful dresses for the Dress a Girl nonprofit organization, clothing girls in need around the globe.

Sandy is survived by her husband, Greg Johnson who she married in Scotland South Dakota on 29 December 1978. Daughter April Rose Evans (43), sons Christopher Aaron Johnson (40) and Michael Curtis Johnson (31). Mimi to Granddaughters Alysa Ray Knowles (22) and Kaydence Rue Evans (9), great-granddaughter Eden Rose expected October of 2026.

Sandy poured her soul and energy into caring, supporting and providing for her family. Sandy had a big heart! She cared, yelled, cried and laughed, always with love from the heart.

She will be greatly missed.

Memorial services will be held at Getz Funeral Home on Las Cruces, New Mexico on Saturday 3 October 2026 from 9-11am.
