Obituary

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister and friend, Socorro Uranga Reza, 87 years old, from Lordsburg, New Mexico. She passed away very peacefully at home on May 13, 2026, in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Socorro was born on May 17, 1938, in Camargo, Chihuahua, Mexico, and was raised in Meoqui, Chihuahua. In 1962, she married her husband, Miguel, and immediately after moved to West Texas (Pecos area) as a permanent U.S. resident and later became an American citizen.

She was a member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Cotton City, NM, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lordsburg, St. Genevieve’s Catholic Church, and a Sacred Heart League member in Las Cruces, NM. She met many priests throughout her life and always had great respect for their vocation, especially their sacred hands that hold and consecrate the Holy Eucharist daily, and knew the value they are to the world. They were all dear to her.

Socorro’s life was centered on adoring God, prayer, her love for the Blessed Virgin Mary, love of family, hard work, serving others, and the Catholic Church. Her prayers for her eight children and loved ones never ceased. She lovingly helped raise many of her grandchildren.

She was a homemaker and worked as a farm laborer every summer to help support her mother and her children. She will be remembered for her delicious home-cooked meals, her love of chocolate and always sharing it. She beautifully sang “Happy Birthday” to all her family and always remembered to call on birthdays.

Local families would seek her help with illnesses affecting their infants and other family members. She learned home remedies from her family and used prayer and her healing hands to heal.

She is survived by her seven children: Palemon Miguel Reza Jr. (Renee), Bernarda Reza, Cruz Olivia Placencia (Sal), Bertha Alicia Maldonado (Jesus), Rene Reza, Raquel Reza (Mario), and Socorro Reza (Norvey); 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ruperto Uranga (1955); her mother, Cruz Cadena de Uranga (1973); her husband, Palemon Miguel Reza (2004); her son, Roberto Reza (2010); and all 14 of her brothers and sisters.

Services were held on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

Pallbearers: Erik Placencia, Christopher Chavez “Chophoro”, Ismael Alvarez “Izzy”, Palemon Miguel Reza III “Trey”, and Atreyu Pesnicak.

Honorary Pallbearers: Palemon Miguel Reza Jr., Rene Reza, Salvador Placencia, Emiliano Olivas, and Jesus Maldonado.

We miss you mom, “forever in our hearts”. Nothing can ever take away a love the heart holds dear. We love you; God bless you, Mama. Eternal rest grant unto mom, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
