Sumner F. Preston, 78, of Las Cruces, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011. He was born June 7, 1933 in Hagerman, NM to Kenneth and Rue Hammons Preston. He was a veteran of the US Army where he served our country honorably in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was also the co-owner and operator along with his father Charley O'Neal of Atlas Construction, Atlas Lumber and Atlas Building for many years. Sumner's passion was for his family and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his two sons Brett Preston and wife Tatiana of Anthony, NM and Greg Preston and wife Nancy of Salem, CT; daughter Kimberly Hull and husband David of Lapel, IN; brothers Kenneth Collins Preston and wife Carmen of Las Cruces and Chuck O'Neal and wife Bonnie of Albuquerque, NM; sister Linda Coshenet and husband David of Las Cruces and by his five grandchildren Hunter, Carsan, Parker, Ashley and Amy. Memorial Services to celebrate his life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Maurice Hollingsworth officiating. Preston's cremains will be laid to rest next to his parents Charley and Rue O'Neal and sister Genevieve O'Neal Mc Daniel at Masonic Cemetery. The US Army will provide military honors.
