Our beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and great aunt passed away unexpectedly on August 20, 2026, in El Paso, Texas. She was born in El Paso on December 23, 1956, to Merrel E. Hyne, Jr., and Lorna Ida Hyne, the first of four children.

When her father retired from the Army in 1973 the family settled in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Susan graduated from Mayfield High School with the class of 1975. Susan later earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Management/Human Resources from Park University in 2001, graduating Summa Cum Laude.

In May 1997 Susan began her career with Cowboy Programming Resources (CPR) in El Paso where she acted as Vice President of Contracts and Administration. She remained there until her passing. Her coworkers were much more than colleagues to Susan – they were her family. She treasured the lunches, holiday celebrations, and time spent with her “work peeps” as she affectionately called them.

But above all else, family was Susan’s greatest priority.

In 2002, Susan moved to Gillette, Wyoming to be close to her son, Joe, and his family. She was blessed with two grandchildren, Joey and Elizabeth and two great grandchildren, Jack and Finn. Being a grandmother and great-grandmother brought Susan immeasurable amount of joy. She took great pride in her family and cherished every opportunity to spend time with them, especially during the holidays, birthdays, and other special occasions.

Susan also had a special bond with her nieces Jackie and Jennifer, who lovingly gave her the title of “FAS” - Favorite Aunt Susan. She adored them and their families and took great joy in watching her great nephews and great nieces as the next generations grow.

In 2016 Susan returned to El Paso trading the harsh Wyoming winters for the warmer Texas climate and continuing with her career with CPR. Although she lived farther from family, she made a point of returning to Wyoming whenever she could for holidays, celebrations, and important family moments.

Susan had many interests that brought her happiness throughout her life. She was an avid mystery reader and true-crime enthusiast, enjoying James Patterson mysteries and true-crime television shows. In her later years she especially loved watching The Great British Baking Show and Britbox with her sister, Judy. In her healthier years she loved gardening, particularly caring for her beloved rose bushes and working in her yard.

She also embraced social media, particularly with Facebook, as a way to stay connected with family and friends. to communicate with her family and friends. It gave her a way to share in everyday moments of the people she loved, even when they were miles apart.

Susan will be remembered for the love she had for her family, the joy she found in being a grandmother and great-grandmother, the special relationships she built with her nieces and extended family, and the friendships she treasured throughout her life.

She leaves behind a family who loved her deeply and who will carry her memory forward in countless stories, traditions, celebrations, and cherished memories.

She is survived by sister Judy Fierro of Las Cruces, brother Edward Hyne (partner Terry Pierson) of Lewisville, Texas, son Joe Hyne and wife Valerie of Charleston, South Carolina, grandchildren Joey Hyne and partner Samantha Hernandez, and Elizabeth Hyne of Gillette, Wyoming, great grandchildren Jack and Finn Hyne also of Gillette, niece Jackie Fierro and wife Andie Gonzalez of Las Cruces and their daughter Stevie and their soon to arrive baby girl, niece Jennifer Whiteley and husband Seth Whiteley of Las Cruces and their children, Peyton, Cooper and Harper.

Services for Susan will begin with a visitation at 5:00 p.m. and service at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday September 3, 2026, at Getz Funeral Home in Las Cruces.

Susan was deeply loved, and she will be deeply missed.
