Teddy Charles Clements, born November 20, 1944, in Roswell, New Mexico, to Clara and Ruby Clements, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, devotion to family, and a lifelong love of ranching and community.
Teddy proudly served his country in the United States Navy from November 21, 1961, to March 25, 1966. Following his military service, he returned to his roots in ranching—a way of life that defined him. As a teenager, he worked on the Charlie Fuller Ranch in Picacho, New Mexico, and after his time in the Navy, he returned to the same ranch, later owned by Robert O. Anderson, doing business as Diamond A Cattle Company. Teddy dedicated many years managing the ranch until his departure in 2004.
Afterward, Teddy and his beloved wife of 39 years, Lois, made their home in Las Cruces, New Mexico. There, he continued his strong work ethic and commitment to the land through his work with the USDA at the Jornada Experimental Range from December 15, 2004, until his retirement on September 1, 2020.
Beyond his professional life, Teddy was deeply involved in the square-dancing community. He began calling square dances in 1972 and spent more than 50 years sharing his talent and passion with dancers across the country. Teddy recorded his own square dance records on the Double J and Riverboat labels, further contributing to the tradition he loved. In 2006, Teddy and his late wife, Lois, were honored together with induction into the Square and Round Dance Hall of Fame—recognition of their lasting impact on the square dance community. He was also an avid team roper, embracing the cowboy lifestyle he cherished.
Teddy was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; his mother, Clara Bohannon; his father, Ruby Clements; and his brothers, Tommy Bohannon, John Clements, George Clements, and Henry Clements.
He is survived by his brother, Billy Ray Clements and wife Irene of Austin, Texas, his sons, Chris Clements and wife Tammy of Harper, Texas, and Kerry Clements and wife Claudia of Las Cruces, New Mexico. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Amanda Mann and husband Travis of Port Lavaca, Texas; Shelby Stevenson and husband Shane of Midland, Texas; Brittany Clements of Kilgore, Texas; Abraham Clements and wife Heaven of Austin, Texas; and Kayla Clements of Las Cruces, New Mexico, along with 12 great-grandchildren who will carry on his legacy.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Teddy’s dear friend, Bebe Ellison Andrews, for her care and support over the last few years, as well as to the compassionate staff at Desert Peaks Assisted Living and Memory Care Facility for the kindness and dignity they showed him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Teddy’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Teddy will be remembered for his steady presence, his deep connection to the land, his love for family, and the joy he brought to others through music, dance, and the cowboy way of life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
