Virginia L. Sims

Virginia Lee Sims entered eternal peace on Wednesday, March 17, 2011 at University Medical Center of El Paso. Virginia was 95 years old, born on September 1, 1915 in Big Spring, Texas and as a teenager moved with her family to the Mesillia Valley in 1934. Virginia, known as Tang by her family, attended Picacho Elementry and Las Cruces High. Virginia Married Carl Sims and they soon established themselves on a farm in near Garfield and Salem. There they raised their five children and were very active in the Salem and Garfield community. Virginia and Carl retired from farming in 1980 and moved to Las Cruces where they were very active with their children and grand children. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Carl, her parents Minerva and Joseph Marler, her brothers Bill, Boodle, Pete, Pud, Joe and sisters Sis, Dolly, and Nellie. Virginia is survived by her brother Buddy and loving children Denson and wife Phyllis, James, Barbara and husband Larry, Linda, Susan and husband David. Beloved grandchildren Carla Sims-Dugie, Robin Hartman, Tammy Brandt, Bryan and Joel Sims, Michael Alvarez, Missy Pilkington, Katherine Johnson, and Melyssa Martinez. Great grandchildren Michael Hartman, AJ Brandt, Rachel Sims, Tyrell Sims, Derek Michael Rankin, Rhiannon and Devon Pilkington, Aiden Johnson, Amaris Martinez, Kaitlyn and Tyler Dugie, and Michael Ray Alvarez. Devoted brother-in-law Jake Sims and son Paul. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to caregivers Maria Porras, Dee Armanac, and Barbara Fresquez for their diligent care, kindness and friendship and to the professional staff at University Medical Center for the professional and skilled care they bestowed upon our mother and grandmother. Visitation will be held at Getz Funeral Home chapel on Sunday evening, March 20th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with funeral services in the Getz chapel on Monday, March 21st at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Joe Whitely officiating. Entombment will immediately follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Pallbearers are Michael Alvarez, Joel, Brian, Tyrell and Paul Sims, and Gary Cunningham. Honorary pall bearers will be David Martinez, Larry Hartman, Rhiannon and Devon Pilkington, Rachel Sims, Aiden Johnson, Amaris Martinez, and Kaitlyn Dugie. PDF Printable Version
