Wayne Russell Cooley, beloved brother and uncle, passed from this life on February 4, 2026. Wayne was born in Ragley, Louisiana, to Clifton Corbett Cooley and Bertha Laura Cooley on August 8, 1938. Wayne was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1963, spending 2 years in active service and 4 years in the reserves. He studied geology and electrical engineering at the Louisiana State University. Wayne spent the majority of his engineering career in civilian service to the U.S. Army at the White Sands Missile Range, retiring in 2001.
Wayne loved to travel and visit the mountain ranges of North America. He spent his retirement years in Caballo, New Mexico, enjoying his two favorite past-times: hiking in the mountains and studying the Word of God. He joined Caballo Church in 2024 and was known to be one of their most faithful members.
Wayne is survived by his sister Barbara Freeman and husband William of Pearland, Texas, and by his sister-in-law Judy Cooley of Hahnville, Louisiana.
He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Anita LaHouse, Diane Fortner, Corbett Freeman, Luke Cooley, Cyndi Whiteley, Laura Glendenning, and Nora Freeman
Services are scheduled for 3:00 pm on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Getz Funeral Home.
