Wayne H. Barnes, 72, of Las Cruces, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012. "Uncle Wayne" as he was fondly known was born June 3, 1940 in San Miguel, NM to Henry John and Myrtle Barnes. He met his wife to be Brenda, in Wasco, CA and they made their lives together in Las Cruces, NM. Wayne spent the majority of his working career in sales and many of those as Advertising Director for the Las Cruces Sun-News. He always liked car sales and was able to open his own car lot Action Auto Center and operated it until his retirement. He enjoyed the outdoors and always had a passion for farming whether it was growing alfalfa or pecans, and was meticulous about keeping the land he tilled tidy. He also enjoyed automotive restoration and was always fixing up another project vehicle. He was proud of all the accomplishments of his family, who will forever miss him. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Brenda Barnes of the family home; son Damon Barnes of Carlsbad, NM; daughters Dena Wilbee and husband Richard and Donice Barnes all of Las Cruces; brothers Otis Barnes and wife Nellie of Socorro, NM and Jack Barnes and wife Rilla of Tulsa, OK; sisters Maxine Kimmel and Ruth Conn both of Farmington, NM, La Fern Arras and husband Dee of Las Cruces, Nancy Mc Cullar of Amarillo, TX and Joyce Welby and husband J.J. of Houston, TX. Also surviving him are his two greatest passions in life granddaughters Alyssa and Riley and by many nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Grace, Nadine and Ruby, and brothers Jay and William. A Celebration of his life will be at 3 PM on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012 at Getz Funeral Home with Robert Wilbee presiding. PDF Printable Version
